Morbid obesity takes years off life expectancy

Morbid obesity increases the likelihood of cancer

Today, morbid obesity is one of the most common diseases in the world. In addition, obesity has also become a serious medical, social and economic problem of society.

According to the latest data of the International Health Organization (ILO), more than 1.7 billion people suffer from this type of disease and by 2025 the number of patients with morbid obesity will double.

Doctor of Philosophy in Medicine, assistant of the Department II of Surgical Diseases at the Educational-surgical clinic of AMU, bariatric surgeon Elchin Abdinov has pointed out that morbid obesity is a risk factor for a number of diseases. These include the following:

• The role of morbid obesity is indisputable in the development of heart failure, which is the most common threat to human life. At the same time plays no less a role in thromboembolism, varicose veins;

• As a result of morbid obesity, dyspnea occurs in the respiratory system, in severe cases respiratory insufficiency, sleep apnea, asthma develops;

• Gastrointestinal diseases, such as gastroesophageal reflux, irritable bowel syndrome, non-alcoholic obesity of the liver, etc;

• A number of diseases that occur in the endocrine system (insulin resistance, type II diabetes, infertility, polycystic ovary, dyslipidemia, etc.);

• A number of cases of intracranial hypertension, stroke, depression and nervous system disorders;

• Development of pathological processes in the musculoskeletal system;

• Development of diseases in the genitourinary system;

• Cellulitis, edema, lymphostasis, sweating, etc .;

• As a result of the researchers, it has been concluded that morbid obesity is also a creative factor for cancer diseases. Thus, people with morbid obesity are more likely to develop malignant tumors of endometrium, mammary gland (especially in menopause), kidney, gallbladder, intestine, pancreas, prostate.

According to the bariatric surgeon, life expectancy in morbid obesity is reduced by 9 years for women and 12 years for men. Elchin Abdinov has noted that there is another important problem caused by the increase in body weight. In patients with morbid obesity, medical therapy does not last long, although it is encouraging. In 95-98% of cases, treatment with drugs remains ineffective, and after a certain period of time, patients are again obese.

According to recent data, in the United States, obesity is the cause of approximately 700,000 deaths per year, in Europe 1 million. It should be noted that

the body mass index with obesity is the third type of obesity, which is more than 40.
