October 20 - World Osteoporosis Day

Osteoporosis is a disease that is characterized by a decrease in bone density in humans. The result of this disease, which is gradually developing and progressing over time, is frequent fractures of the limbs and spine. The term "osteoporosis", describing changes in human bone tissue, was introduced in the 19th century by French surgeon Jacob Lobstein.


Every year on October 20, World Osteoporosis Day is celebrated. The World Health Organization set this date back in 1997, with the goal of raising global public awareness of the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis and metabolic bone diseases. This year, this day will be held under the slogan "A healthy childhood is a healthy future for bones."


Osteoporosis is a growing global problem. According to the World Health Organization, the incidence is the fourth among infectious diseases after cardiovascular, cancer and diabetic diseases. According to statistics, in the world every third woman and every fifth man at the age of 50 suffer from osteoporosis.


At first, osteoporosis does not manifest itself. About ten years may pass from the onset of the disease, and the person will still be in the dark. The vertebral bodies are most often affected, causing pain and forcing to see a doctor. This disease is characterized by deformation of the bones and back pain, fractures of large and small bones. Osteoporosis can be detected by an orthopedic traumatologist after a special examination.


Fist of all, you need to get rid of excess weight toprevent osteoporosis. It is believed that diett should be followed, and salted and pickled foods should be minimized.


In addition to the treatment, prescribed by the doctor to prevent the development of osteoporosis, it is necessary to perform gymnastic movements.
