31 May – World No Tobacco Day

May 31 marks the World No Tobacco Day, proclaimed in 1988 by the World Health Organization (WHO).


The main purpose of this day is to to draw global attention to the tobacco epidemic and its lethal effects.Worldwide, tobacco use causes nearly 6 million deaths per year.


A number of events, dedicated to World No Tobacco Day are held in Azerbaijan. The Center for Public Health and Reform of the Ministry of Health (CPHR), which is constantly fighting tobacco smuggling, is making active efforts to educate the public.


So far, studies have been conducted on issues related to tobacco use, video materials have been prepared to promote healthy lifestyles. A photo contest was organized, and the guidelines for implementing the relevant articles of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control were translated into Azerbaijani and published as a book.


Specialists of the CPHRconducted presentations on the topic "Life without tobacco" in higher and secondary educational institutions of Baku. In addition, among the population were distributed booklets, posters, pens, information engravings prepared by the CPHR.
