The department consisted of 3 staff members – the head of the department Professor I.S.Ginzburg, assistant professor A. Gambarov and assistant R.G.Akbarov, when it was first organized. As of the day of establishment of the department, Professor I.S.Ginzburg had provided the teaching of pediatric surgery in the Azerbaijani and Russian languages at the Faculty of Pediatrics. However, due to the beginning of the Great Patriotic War in 1941, the volume of both practical and scientific-research works of the Department of Pediatric Surgery began to decline considerably. Mammadov were mobilized to the home front and died in the war for their Motherland. After the Great Patriotic War was over, the Department of Pediatric Surgery began to revive its work. And this gave a great boost to the increase in the number of employees and the planning of scientific research works. Thus, the department began to deal with the matters such as the consequences of firearm injuries, osteochondritis, thoracic perichondritis and wound dystrophies, firearm injuries of the elements of the abdominal and thoracic cavity in detail.
